Our site is best browsed with Safari on Mac OS X because Mac OS X uses Quartz Extreme and Quartz 2D delivers crisp graphics with anti-aliased fonts. Thus Firefox and Mozilla also yield good results on Mac OS X. Mac OS X has better graphics and anti-aliasing than Microsoft Windows; Windows is a little rough around the edges. Our site supports Internet Explorer or Mozilla based browsers on Microsoft Windows. If you encounter any problems, let us know how we can help.

To rotate the 3D models offered on our site, visitors may need to download software. In order to run the 3D applet you need to have both the Java 2 Runtime Environment (JRE) and Java 3D installed. (If you are running Mac OS X 10.3.1 please use Safari as your browser.)

Java 2 Runtime Environment can be obtained by following the link below:

Windows, Linux, Solaris (Download J2SE v1.4.2_03 JRE+)
Mac OS X 10.3.1 (Mac OS X 10.3.1 now comes shipped with it already)

Java 3D can be obtained by following the appropriate links below:

Windows, Solaris (for Windows [OpenGL Version] Runtime for the JRE)
Mac OS X 10.3.1
Linux

The minimum requirements for most interactive 3D applications are listed below. In most cases you will not need to do anything more.

500+ MHz main processor.

Dedicated 3D-display hardware, with at least 16 MB of texture memory. New 3D graphics cards are released regularly, so you should research the latest cards within your budget. Ensure that the card has good OpenGL compatibility for use with Java 3D. The Java 3D mailing list is a good source of information on various graphics cards.

128+ MB of system RAM.

Memory usage will be an important component of application performance. Performance will be extremely poor if you have less physical RAM available than the working set for your application. In this case, the operating system will have to page virtual memory to and from disk, which is very slow.

The 3D applet should take anywhere from 3-30 seconds to load.
