Visitors are invited to search the database of
odorant-evoked activity patterns using any of a variety
of search tools.
|
|
To search for odorant name, CAS number, molecular
formula, odor descriptor, chemical classification,
pattern name, or study code, one should first click the
radio button adjacent to the desired category. The
visitor then has two choices. A complete list of search
terms associated with the selected category can be
viewed by clicking the large button. The particular term
of interest then can be chosen from the list that
follows. Alternatively, one can type or paste a search
term directly into the text box followed by clicking the
"Submit Search" button. (When searching for
odorant name, alternative names are searched together
with our preferred names, and these alternative names
also are listed in the index of names).

|
Searches for molecular properties should be initiated by
selecting the molecular property of interest from the
combo box. Available molecular properties include
molecular weight, molecular length, molecular volume,
LogP, hydrophilic/lipophilic balance, Hansen polarity,
an index of hydrogen bond donor strength, an index of
hydrogen bond acceptor strength, percent hydrophilic
surface, water solubility, vapor pressure, and number of
rotatable bonds. After selecting the property of
interest, the available range of values will be
displayed above the text boxes. If the visitor wishes to
see the complete list of values for the selected
property, there is a button provided to display such a
list, with individual values linked to individual
patterns (the visitor should be forewarned that such
lists will be quite long). The visitor can type the
lower and upper ranges of the value for the selected
property and submit a search to see patterns for all
odorants within that range.

|
To search for odorants by publication, the visitor
should select the desired publication from the combo
box. Two types of results can be obtained using searches
by publication. The default type of result returns the
same type of intermediate results page returned by the
above-described searches, wherein one can select an
individual odorant in order to view the pattern
associated with the selected publication. The second
type of result allows one to select an entire figure (or
large figure part) from the publication. After selecting
the figure, one can select alternate view types that
will affect all panels of the figure simultaneously.
These same options are provided from our
"Publications" page.
